Early in life he became a minister of the Church of the Brethren and went to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, as pastor of the church in that city, but his health giving way, he returned to Lewistown, where he took an interest in the Spanogle-Yeager Milling Company and a responsible position in the Mt. Rock mill. He continued in the active ministeral work and was laboring in the pulpit and also in the Sunday-school.
