General Notes: Husband - James W. Mitchell

He remained on the farm until he had attained his majority, then removed to New Brighton, Beaver County, Pennsylvania, where he learned the stone mason's and stone cutter's trade. He helped build the canal along the Beaver river, and erected the stone Presbyterian Church in New Brighton. He was also the proprietor of a marble yard for four or five years.
He gave his political allegiance to the Republican party, and was a justice of the peace in Allegheny County and in New Brighton for a period of fifteen years. He had joined the ranks of the Know Nothing party before it became the Republican, and was a strong Abolitionist. Physically he was a very large man, weighing over two hundred pounds, and strong in proportion to his size.
