Mt. Wolf, York Co, PA
Civil War: He enlisted in Company B, 87th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers, on August 20th, 1861, for three years or during the war. During this enlistment he saw much hard service and was actively engaged in the following battles: Bunker Hill, Winchester, Carter's Woods, Mannassas Gap, Bealton Station, Kelly's Ford, Brandy Station, Mine Run and others. But he was unwilling to leave the service with the war still undecided, so, on January 1st, 1864, he re-enlisted for three years more, or during the war. During this term of service, he was engaged in the following battles: The Wilderness, Spottsylvania, North Anna, Cold Harbor, Petersburg, Weldon Railway, Fort Stevens, Winchester, and Fisher Hill. In this latter battle, he was taken a prisoner and sent to Libby Prison, and afterwards to Andersonville. At this place he was exchanged March 8th, 1865, and honorably discharged at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, June 6th, 1865. He was an invalid ever after and died nine years later at the age of 39.
