He was a noted lawyer in the early days of the Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, courts.

He studied law and lived in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where he gained considerable distinction. About 1800 he removed to near Williamsport, where he had a large tract of land and soon after died there.
