General Notes: Husband - Dr. George W. Miller, M.D.
He received his early education in the local public schools and also attended the public schools of Mount Pleasant and Greensburg, Pennsylvania. Upon completing his studies at these institutions, he secured a position as teacher in the Hempfield schools, where he remained for three years. During that time, however, his attention had been more and more directed to the subject of medicine and he finally decided to take this up as his career in life. Accordingly, he entered the Jefferson Medical College of Philadelphia, from which he graduated with the class of 1884, taking his degree of Doctor of Medicine. He returned at once to Hempfield township and there for a time engaged in the practice of his profession. Some time afterwards, however, he removed to the West and remained six years in a town of Howard County, Nebraska. In 1890, however, he returned East and settled in Greensburg, where he then continued to practice. For seventeen years or more he was identified with the Westmoreland Hospital as a member of its staff, and was a member of the Westmoreland County Medical Society. He held the rank of surgeon-major of the Fourth Regiment, Sons of Veterans, United States Army. He was also affiliated with a number of non-military and non-medical organizations, among which were the local lodges of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, which he joined in 1881, the Protected Home Circle and the Modern Woodmen of America. He was a Republican in politics, but took no active part in the political issues of the community.
