He enlisted in the War of the Rebellion in the One Hundred and Forty fifth Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, serving three years. He was engaged in the battles of Gettysburg, Wilderness, siege of Petersburg; received a wound in his leg, and was honorably discharged in 1865.
