He was a native of Somerset County, Pennsylvania, and the owner of a mill at Mechanicsburg, Ligonier township, Westmoreland County, to which place he came as a young man.
He was a Republican in politics, and a member of the White United Brethren Church at Mechanicsburg; he was active in church work.
