He was born in Wales, and removed to the Welsh Tract in Pennsylvania in 1683, bringing with him a certificate of removal from a Friends Meeting held at Tyddyn y Garreg, describing him as "late of Llwyn-du." He later removed to Burlington County, New Jersey.
