General Notes: Husband - Samuel S. Mershimer
He received a common school education, and commenced to learn the carpenter's trade when he was nineteen years of age, which business he followed in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, for twenty-five years. He then removed to Butler County and purchased a homestead of seventy-five acres in Clay township, where he then engaged in farming, making a specialty of small fruits. The family was connected with the Presbyterian church, and politically, Mr. Mershimer was a stanch Democrat.
