He was born about the year 1796, and was registered at Staveley Chapel, above Kendal, Westmoreland County.

In June, 1849, he and his wife came to the United States, and from Philadelphia removed to Elk County, Pennsylvania, later making their home with their two sons in Brady and Union townships, Clearfield County.
