He was a carpenter by trade, but his time was devoted to oil producing, at which he met with remarkable success. His farm of one hundred acres, near Glade Run, had seventeen producing wells in 1887, with an abundance of territory yet to be opened. He figured somewhat in the affairs of the town, and frequently held town offices. In politics he favored the Prohibitionists, but in earlier years was a Democrat.
