General Notes: Husband - Archie S. McQuilkin
He was educated in the home schools, and lived with his father until his marriage. Although he was one of the most prosperous agriculturists of West Mahoning township, Indiana County, Pennsylvania, he did not confined his activities to farming, for from 1904 to 1908 he was profitably engaged in a mercantile business at Indiana, Indiana County. Later he carried on general farming and stock raising, specializing on Berkshire hogs, sheep and chickens. He was one of the heaviest potato growers of Indiana County, and believed in experimenting in order to discover the best methods. So successful was he along different lines that he was a recognized authority on agricultural matters, and his neighbors often followed his example. Beginning from the organization of the Dayton Agricultural and Mechanical Fair Association of Dayton, Mr. McQuilkin was its president, and was one of the men who made its success possible. Not only did he take a deep interest in the fair each year, but led others to join him in pushing its affairs, and advancing it in every way. A strong Republican, Mr. McQuilkin was often called upon to hold office in the township, and discharged all such responsibilities conscientiously. In 1907 he was mercantile appraiser. For several years he was a member of the Glade Run Presbyterian Church, and was superintendent of the large Sunday school of that organization.
