General Notes: Husband - J. Curtin North
He was born on the North homestead in Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, and always lived there with the exception of three months spent in Nebraska, where he was employed in a nursery. The estate contained 199¾ acres of excellent land, and his management won him a high reputation as an able agriculturist. The coal deposits underlying the farm were sold in 1884 for $62.50 per acre. He was constantly in office, discharging the duties of at least three positions, serving several years as overseer of the poor, as township treasurer, and as township collector. He was a stanch Republican, as was his father before him. Socially, he was a member of the I. O. O. F., the Junior Mechanics, and the Benevolent Order of Elks, all of Punxsutawney.
