General Notes: Husband - Wayne C. Hastings

He spent his life on the farm. He was educated in the local schools and worked with his father until the latter's retirement, after which he had charge of the property, devoted to general farming. He rebuilt the house, and in 1917 built a new barn, owning some valuable Durham and Hereford cattle, as well as fine Berkshire hogs. He never bred any stock, but took pride in owning superior animals and caring for them.
In 1906 he was honored with election to the office of county auditor, and served a term of three years commencing Jan. 1, 1907, during an important period in the history of the county. For several years he was a member of the Canal Township school board. His principal activity aside from business was in political work, as a stanch member of the Republican Party, whose cause he promoted ably. [CAB, 623]
