He was employed as timekeeper, weighmaster and rail inspector at the Rolling Mill of the Philadelphia & Reading Railway Co., Reading, Pennsylvania, from Sept., 1868, until March, 1885. From June, 1886, until June, 1893, he had charge of the finishing department of the shape mill of the North Branch Steel Co. at Danville, Pennsylvania. In June, 1898, he was appointed under the Civil Service Rules, Assistant Inspector of Engineering Material for the Bureau of Steam Engineering, Navy Department, Washington, D. C., and resigned Dec., 1903, to accept the position of Sales Representative for the Penn Steel Castings & Machine Co., Chester, Pennsylvania, and later was Sales Agent for the Penn Seaboard Steel Corporation, Main Office, Philadelphia. He was a member of the Society of the Sons of the Revolution.
