He studied law at Indiana, Pennsylvania, was admitted to the Huntingdon bar August 13, 1866, when he entered into partnership with his brother-in-law, R. M. Speer, Esq., under the firm name of Speer & McMurtrie. After the death of Mr. Speer he practised by himself.
