He read medicine for three years with Dr. A. H. Gross, of Jacksonville, Indiana County, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Jefferson Medical College, of Philadelphia, in 1855. He commenced to practice in Mechanicsburg in 1849, having had one course of lectures at Jefferson.
