General Notes: Husband - Hugh W. Wilson

He was born in Washington, Pennsylvania, grew to manhood there, and ultimately settled on the farm which his grandfather had purchased in South Strabane township, Washington County. From his youth he was a farmer until the closing years of his life, when he devoted his principal attention to fruit growing, and, later, to floriculture. His sudden death was caused by internal rupture produced by rapid walking.

He was a successful nurseryman, farmer and sheep grower. One of Washington's prominent citizens, he was a liberal supporter of Washington College in the days of its need and was interested and contributed liberally to the success of the Washington Female Seminary, of which he was a stockholder and trustee until his death. He was one of the first to express abolition views in this part of the county and was very active in promoting the "Underground" Railroad. He was an original stockholder in the Hempfield Railroad, later the B. & O.; also one of the original stock-holders in the old Franklin Bank of Washington, later the First National Bank, one of the few banks that never suspended payment of gold.

General Notes: Wife - Frances Emma Barlow

from Allegheny Co, PA

She was the niece of Commodore Preble.

She was born in France, but was of English parentage. Her mother was a niece of Commodore Edward Preble and her son, Mr. J. B. Wilson, had in his possession a bronze copy of the medal that was awarded that gallant officer for bravery before Tripoli.
