General Notes: Husband - Robert Smith
In 1769, soon after the rescue of the prisoners at Fort Bedford by Capt. James Smith and eighteen of his "Black Boys," Mr. Robert Smith, in company with his brother, Captain James, and brother-in-law, James McDowell, started for the Youghigheny to survey some lands they had there. Robert Smith and McDowell entered the town of Bedford to have a horse shod. There they were arrested by Sheriff Holmes of Cumberland county, and held in confinement for some time, on suspicion of having been concerned in the Fort Bedford affair.
