General Notes: Husband - William J. Barkley

He was reared and educated in Butler County, Pennsylvania and he remained on the home farm until his marriage, when he purchased his own farm from his father. It is a large tract of valuable land, about all of it under cultivation. He was one of the largest growers of fine stock in that section.
In politics, Mr. Barkley was a Democrat, but his personal popularity in his township was so great that he was kept in some public office for many years, although normally the Republican vote was double that of the Democratic. For twelve years he served as a school director, for three years as supervisor, one year as tax collector and for four years as overseer of the poor. He was a member of the Lutheran Church at Prospect and served as a deacon in the same.
