General Notes: Husband - William McLain

This family is of Scotch-Irish descent.
He came to America from the north of Ireland at a very early day, settling in Adams County, Pennsylvania. Two of his sons, who were civil engineers, assisted in locating the dividing line between Maryland and Pennsylvania.

In 1680 six brothers from the Isle of Mull, Scotland, emigrated to America. They were all civil engineers, and settled in the Cumberland valley. Of their descendants, William McLain settled in Washington County in an early day. [HAC 1889, 514]
