General Notes: Husband - Col. John Kennedy Robison
In 1858, he was elected first lieutenant of the Juniata County, Pennsylvania, troops which became Company A of the First Pennsylvania Cavalry, of which he was put in command as captain. Subsequently he was placed in command of the Sixteenth Cavalry, and at the close of the war was made brevet colonel and brigadier general having participated in all of the battles fought by the Army of the Potomac. In 1867 he was elected State Senator. He was appointed aid-de-camp on the staff of Governor James Addams Beaver. Governor Hastings appointed him one of the factory inspectors of the State of Pennsylvania.
He was educated in the schools of Milford township, and was brought up at farm labor. In 1858 he was elected first lieutenant of the Juniata troops in his own county which was made Company A, of the First Pennsylvania Cavalry, and of which he was put in command as captain. This position he resigned after one year's service, and came home on account of sickness in his family. After raising Company F, with which he joined the Sixteenth Cavalry, he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel, and put in command of the regiment in June, 1863, and at the close of the war was made brevet colonel and brigadier general, having participated in all the battles fought by the Army of the Potomac in which the cavalry were brought into action, and was wounded twice. After the close of the war he returned home and resumed farming. In 1867 he was elected by the Republican party to the office of State senator and served in the position until 1870. Colonel Robison was a leading and active politician and, by the appointment of Governor Hastings, was one of the factory inspectors of the State. His enthusiasm as an old soldier was expressed in his active membership of the G. A. R., in which he was a past commander of the Post, and the Union Veteran League. He was appointed aid-de-camp on Governor Beaver's staff with the rank of lieutenant colonel.
With his first wife he had eight children, four of whom were deceased before 1897.
