There are various spellings of this surname, including, but not limited to: Naley, Naly, Neighly, Nelig, Nalieg, and also, possibly, Neely.
This family resided for many years in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and had an even greater antiquity in the New England colonies before coming there.
He came with his four brothers from Northampton, Connecticut, [other sources say, Northampton County, Pennsylvania] and all of them took up tracts of land in Westmoreland County, which was at that time nothing more than a complete wilderness with a few pioneer huts scattered through it here and there. He was a farmer by occupation, his farm being situated in what later became Penn township.
