On Aug. 1, 1917, he enlisted in the 16th Pennsylvania Regiment at Franklin, Pennsylvania, and from there was sent to Camp Hancock, near Augusta, Georgia, for training, and was sent to France, in the spring of 1918. He was killed in action somewhere in France on Aug. 9, 1918. At the time of his death he was a member of Co. F, 112th U.S. Infantry.
