He was an engineer, for some time with the Northern Pacific Railroad Company, later with the State Highway Department of Virginia, and then mining engineer for the Keystone Coal and Coke Company, of Greensburg, Pennsylvania, having charge of surveys of their Cambria and Indiana County mines.
