He was educated in the local schools and at Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, where, for three years he had academic advantages. After he returned home he engaged in the lumber business and became associated in the same with J. Stauffer, at Burnside. He was also interested in extensive farm property; was one of the directors of the Laurel Oil & Gas Company, of Oklahoma; owned property at Camden, New Jersey, and was a director in the First National Bank at Glen Campbell, Pennsylvania.
He was a member of the Evangelical church at Patchinville. In politics he was a Republican but never desired public office.
