He was educated in the public schools of Franklin, Pennsylvania, and after attending the high school, entered the employ of the Eclipse Oil Refining Company, as clerk, and later was promoted to the foreman of the car department. In 1909, he resigned his position, and purchased the insurance business of Mitchell and Evans, at Franklin.
