The first of this family of whom we have recorded information, he was born in Ayr, Scotland. For some years prior to coming to America he had resided in Aughnacloy, Ireland. He came to America about 1719, and is supposed to have been the first of this name to settle here. Between that time and 1741 two other families of the same name emigrated to America and made their settlement along the Delaware river.
