He resided on a farm adjoining the one on which he was born, and throughout life gave his whole attention to agricultural pursuits.
In 1862 he enlisted in Company K, Sixty-first Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers, and had his left arm shot off at the battle of the Wilderness.
