General Notes: Husband - Jonathan Mortimer

He was born in Madison township, Clarion County, Pennsylvania, and died in Madison township, on his home farm. In this township he was brought up and received his education. Here, too, he was a farmer and stock raiser, owning one hundred and eighty-one acres of land, all which he had cleared. He had moved onto this farm about 1842, and it was later occupied by his son, Alson James. He was a Democrat; for many years he was school director. Both he and his wife were members of the Presby­terian church.
