He was a native of Ireland, and one of the earliest settlers of South Shenango Township, Crawford County, Pennsylvania, coming there in the latter part of the eighteenth century, when the whole country was yet a wilderness. Both he and his wife died on the old homestead, where they reared a family of six sons and six daughters. In 1888, only three of the twelve children were still living, one son and two daughters.
