He was edu­cated at University of North Carolina, and Jefferson Medical School, Philadelphia, PA; M. D., 1889, after which he did post graduate work in Lying-in Charity Hospital; spent one year abroad in medical re­search. He was licensed to practice medicine in North Carolina in 1889, locating at Stoneville where he practiced for two years, after
which he obtained a license in Virginia and removed to Salem. After practicing there for three years he removed to Oregon, locating at Oregon City in 1897, where he practiced for twenty-six years. For a long period, it was his custom to attend medical lectures every two years. He was a popular and greatly respected man in his profession and the city in which he lived. He was a member of the Con­gregational Church, and the Elks, Woodman, I. O. O. F., and Masonic Lodges.
