He was a graduate of the Indiana (PA) State Normal school and of Lafayette college; received his ministerial education at Princeton Theological seminary, and for some years was pastor of the Southwestern Presbyterian church, Philadelphia, and was also one of the secretaries of the Presbyterian board of education, and president of the board of managers of the Evangelical Alliance of Philadelphia.
