General Notes: Husband - J. W. Young
He was a native of Centre County, Pennsylvania, and was reared and educated in Clearfield County. He was reared to agricultural pursuits, and during early life assisted his father in paying for the old homestead farm in Ferguson township, on which he continued to reside. After his father's death he purchased the interests of the other heirs, added to the land, but also sold some, and ended with eighty-one acres, improved with substantial and commodious buildings and a fine orchard, as well as many other conveniences and comforts which added to its value and neat appearance. About sixty-five acres were cleared and cultivated, and the whole tract was underlaid with coal and fire clay. For some years he successfully operated coal mines uon his place, and in this way added not a little to his income.
He and his wife were members of the Baptist Church. Reared a Democrat, Mr. Young always adhered to the principles of that party, and took an active part in public affairs, filling a number of important township offices, including those of judge of the election board and treasurer two terms.
