General Notes: Husband - John Mong

He received his early education in the public schools, and when thirteen years of age began work on his father's farm, in which he continued until his marriage at the age of twenty-seven years. In 1879 he was elected constable of Beaver township and reelected in 1881 for two additional terms and then became interested in the oil wells of that section, with varying success until he disposed of his interests in 1889. In 1888 he was elected sheriff of Clarion County, and served in that office for three years. In 1891-92 he operated a livery stable in the city of Clarion, and in the latter year removed to Rimersburg, Pennsylvania, where he entered the hotel business, becoming the proprietor of the "Hotel Noel." He disposed of this property in 1896, when he was elected to the Pennsylvania state legislature. He was twice a delegate to the national (state?) Democratic convention. In 1900 he settled in Monterey, Pennsylvania, where he purchased the "Hotel Monterey," of which he was the owner and proprietor for over a decade.
