General Notes: Husband - George E. Mason
He attended the public schools, and when not engaged in study his time was occupied in assisting his father in carrying on the homestead farm. Like many other farm-bred youths he indulged in aspirations for what he considered a more congenial calling, and accordingly engaged in mechanical pursuits. Having acquired a good knowledge of steam and electric engineering, he was for a period of four years employed at the Greensburg (Pennsylvania) Electric light plant, but the exhilarating influence of out-of-door life eventually wooed him back to the less confining and more independent occupation of farming. Settling upon the farm in Donegal township, Westmoreland County, he applied himself to its cultivation, and by taking advantage of everything within his reach in the way of improvements, achieved excellent success. Instead of neglecting his knowledge of mechanics he applied it to his business, introducing in his neighborhood a modern traction engine, and this innovation furnished power for operating an improved threshing machine, which he used both for his own and his neighbors' convenience. He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran church at Donegal, and a Republican in politics.
