He was a graduate of Lafayette College; was admitted to the bar of Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, and began the practice of law in Ashland, in 1859.
He entered the army in the winter of 1861; served in the 7th Pennsylvania Cavalry; was killed by guerrillas at Bardstown, Kentucky.
