He and his brother, Joseph, came from County Tyrone, North Ireland, in 1788, and purchased land around what became known later as Larimer Station in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. He was a farmer by occupation.

General Notes: Wife - Sarah Sloan

---

She was a lady of unusual mental attainments for her day and a midwife of considerable note.

She had considerable medical skill obtained under the instruction of her brother, Dr. William Sloan, before leaving Ireland. In the new world her unusual medical knowledge and skill proved a timely and great blessing in many of the early settler homes.
