General Notes: Husband - Asher Minnis
He received fifty acres as his share of the old homestead. This he farmed in the summer, and for twenty years, during the winter months, was engaged in teaching. He was generally recognized as one of the most efficient teachers and most thoroughly educated men in the county [Mercer County, PA], having been educated under the special care of Professor Gamble, founder of the Jamestown Academy. He was an active Whig and Republican and, in his religious faith, long identified with the Free Will Baptist church. [HMC 1909, 1038]
