General Notes: Husband - James D. Nelson
He was born on a farm that became a part of Allegheny city, Pennsylvania. Most of his life was spent in Lawrence County, where he devoted his attention to agricultural pursuits. He owned a farm of one hundred and twenty-five acres, which he had cleared himself and on which he had erected substantial and comfortable buildings. He was formerly a Republican in politics, but prior to his demise became a stalwart supporter of the principles promulgated by the Prohibition party. He was a soldier in the civil war and served for about one year as a member of Company D, 134th Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry and was honorably discharged with others. He was a member of the United Presbyterian church in his religious faith, and was an elder in that church for about a half a century. [GPHAV, 661]
