He was associated with the Standard Oil Company as oil gauger. In public matters he was a Republican and served Leetsdale as member of the borough council, serving on the finance committee, and was largely instrumental in getting the varied improvements in the borough. He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons, also the Heptasophs.
