General Notes: Husband - Col. David Nelson
He settled in the southern part of Fairfield township, Crawford County, Pennsylvania. He served under General Harrison in the War of 1812, holding the rank of major. He was afterwards a colonel in the militia, and became a prominent citizen of the township, of which he remained a life-long resi-dent.
An early saw-mill was built on Wright's Run by David Nelson.
He settled on the homestead farm in Crawford County, Pennsylvania, in 1776 [sic], coming on horseback from Westmoreland County. He returned the same year to Westmoreland County, was married, and then came to his new home here and began life in earnest. Surrounded by a dense forest and limited facilities, he made his way toward the front rank of civilization. He served his country in the war of 1812, being stationed at Fort Meigs in the winter of 1813-14. [HCC 1899, 956] [A settlement date of 1796 seems more likely.]
One source: He died at the age of ninety-four years. Another: seventy-two years.
General Notes: Wife - Jane Milligan
