General Notes: Husband - Thomas McGaughey
The McGaughey family is of Scotch-Irish origin, and was early settled in southeastern Pennsylvania.
He came from York County to Westmoreland County prior to the War of 1812, but soon thereafter removed to Conemaugh township, Indiana County, where he was a farmer.
A few years after marriage he and his wife migrated to near the Loyalhanna river, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, where they resided on a farm until about 1808, when they removed to Indiana County, where they stopped but a short time, when they moved over into Armstrong County, to a farm which had previously been settled by their son, Alexander. This farm was later owned by Archibald McGaughey, a grandson, and was situated in Cowanshannock township, about two miles from Rural Village. Mr. and Mrs. McGaughey lived on this farm until their respective deaths.
He moved from York County, Pennsylvania, to Westmoreland County a few years prior to the War of 1812, and soon afterward settled in Conemaugh township, now a part of Indiana County, where he engaged in farming. [HIC 1913, 1437]
