General Notes: Wife - Catherine McClintock
Her great-grandfather, Adam Galt, a soldier in the revolutionary war, was the grandson of Robert Galt, a native of Ireland, born in 1710, who came to America as a young man, settling in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
Romance or fate had a part in the life of Catherine (McClintock) McElroy. In her early girlhood she betrothed herself to William Kirker, but her mother, having decided that she must marry William McElroy, compelled her to break her engagement with Mr. Kirker. After McElroy's death she lived with her children until the year 1888, when Mr. Kirker, who had in the meantime married and become a widower, again sought her hand. They were married at the ages of seventy-three and seventy-five years, respectively. Four years later an incurable malady attacked him, and he died a short time afterward.
At the time of her demise she had the distinction of being the oldest woman in the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, having reached the remarkable age of ninety-six years.
