General Notes: Husband - Thompson McClain

He learned boatbuilding and constructed craft to be used in transporting produce to Pittsburgh. For years he and his brother John were partners in this line of business, their boats selling in Pittsburgh for the lower river coal trade. When a man of middle age, Mr. McClain bought a farm, later owned by his son Thomas. It was known as the "Old Finley farm" and the house was an old one, being partly constructed of logs. This Mr. McClain remodeled and it was further improved by his son. The land comprised two hundred and forty acres. The barn was built by Mr. McClain. It was about 1864 that he purchased the estate.
In politics he was a Democrat, and in 1876 was chosen by his fellow-citizens to represent them in the State Legislature. Mr. McClain also served on the School Board and was a member of the Concord Methodist Episcopal Church.
