He came from Radnorshire, Wales, and settled in what became Nantmeal township, Chester County, Pennsylvania, prior to 1718.

It is said that the family came to Chester County, Pennsylvania, in 1708 and lived for some time in a cave on a property later owned by the Reinhart family.
