When he was two years of age, his parents located on a farm near Moniteau, PA, and here he was reared to man­hood. Until twenty-five years of age he carried on various occupations, and at that time became engaged in farming, which he carried on for one year after his mar­riage in Cherry Township, Butler County, then removing to Concord Township, where he resided until 1861. After that time he was en­gaged in general farming on a farm in Cherry Township, a fine tract of fertile land, on which he made many improvements.
