He received his education in the public schools of Buena Vista, Pennsylvania, and Oakland Township, and also attended Slippery Rock State Normal School. From 1895 until 1897 he attended the Ohio Dental College, Cincinnati, and in 1898 graduated from the University of Pittsburgh. He then established a practice in Butler and with offices in the Savings Bank & Trust Company Building.
He was a Republican, a member of the Elks Lodge and Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He belonged to the Butler County Dental Society and was a progressive man in his profession.
