He was a volunteer in Capt. Longstreth's company in the War of the Revolution, and was wounded in the battle of Princeton; subsequently appointed brigade quartermaster in Gen. Hand's brigade, of Gen. Sullivan's expedition against the New York Indians, in 1779. His journal of the expedition is printed in vol. xv. of Pennsylvania Archives.
