About the year 1800 he pur­chased a farm in the vicinity of New Cum­berland, West Virginia (which was then Brooke County, Virginia, now Hancock County, West Virginia), which was his home un­til his death.
He was for over fifty years a ruling elder in the Presbyterian Church, having been ordained to that office by Rev. Elisha McCurdy, in the church known as the “Three Springs,” in the burial ground where his remains now lie.
